Sci Fi

(Tomo Design)

As ridden by Stuey Kennedy in the Quiksilver Pro Snapper event to victory against Kelly Slater and Gabriel Medina. The Sci-Fi is a mash up of classic curves and modern rocker served with a Futuristic twist of fluid dynamic principles likely found in the design archives of Bruce Wayne. Expect seemingly unnatural acceleration, instantaneous response and an all around level performance that can only be described as Electric. The Sci-Fi is a high performance all-rounder with impressive range (1-8ft ) with usability for intermediate to advanced surfers. 5-fin Option.

(Linear Flex Technology) White Deckskin - LFT incorporates Firewire’s SPRINGER HD, a 0.75" (18 mm) wide aerospace composite that runs down the centerline of the board, representing the next generation in our SPRINGER technology. The SPRINGER HD runs the entire length of the board and plays a pivotal role in optimizing flex from nose to tail.

(Greg Webber Design)

Inspired by the extreme rocker boards that Greg Webber and Shane Herring developed in the early 90’s, the BANANA is a far more user-friendly version that Kelly and Greg developed for intermediate to advanced surfers. And meant to be ridden in better than average conditions. The BANANA has a smooth outline curve from nose to tail, a slight bump wing in front of the fins, as well as a generous single to double concave bottom contour. The end result is an extremely high performance surfboard that can be pushed hard through turns, while holding it's own in deep barrels. In other words, the carving rail turns and extreme tube riding that Kelly was doing at Pipe on the smaller days during the 2015 Masters.

Available in FST construction: - FST relies primarily on the PARABOLIC Balsa Rail to control flex while the high density aerospace composite vacuumed to both the top and bottom decks provides significant impact strength, and is stronger than a traditional PU surfboard.

2015 Makin homes peel pro

For the first time in over a decade the Peel Region will be hosting a major Open Surfing Contest. Sanctioned by Surfing WA, the Makin Homes Peel Pro presented by Star Surf + Skate is scheduled to coincide with the best possible swell window for the Mandurah area. The event will be run on the weekend of 25th / 26th July.

Mandurah Board Riders club will be hosting the event and are extremely excited to announce that local businesses Makin Homes and Star Surf + Skate have come on board as major sponsors.

The 2015 Makin Homes Peel Pro proudly presented by Star Surf and Skate will see the state’s best surfers compete in any one of the four selected venues approved by the City of Mandurah Local Council.

Depending on conditions, Gearies, Avalon, Egg Farms and Melros could all be utilised.

Up to 150 surfers will be converging on the beaches of Mandurah for the event in a hope of securing the inaugural title and a piece of the $5000 in cash and prises up for grabs.

You can listen to other Major sponsor Coast FM or join the Makin Homes Peel Pro Facebook page for updates and info in the next 10 weeks leading up to the contest.

The Heat draw will be done a little differently to usual contests - contestants will be drawn from a hat to allocate heat times for the first round of competition. The heat draw will be happening at Cobblers Tavern at 6:00pm on July 24 to kick off proceedings and make it interesting for all competitors.

You do not have to be a Surfing WA member to participate in the event and this will allow a big chunk of the local Mandurah surfers the ability to test themselves against the state’s best surfers in their own back yard.

Entries are now being taken through Surfing WA’s official events page HERE  or click on the link through the events Facebook page.

Mandurah Board Riders Welcome all competitors and would like to thank their major sponsers:

Mandurah Board Riders at the board rider battle

Incredible surf conditions and standout performances highlighted an impressive event of contest surfing for the Mandurah Boardriders club last weekend at the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle.

The iconic Injidup Carpark surf break just south of Yallingup played host to the event and provided the perfect high performance setting for competitors who revelled in the clean and consistent 3-4 feet waves.

The unique and exciting event format saw six surfers from each club compete in skins, women’s and teams divisions. An impressive list of WA surfers were frothing at the opportunity to represent their local clubs in hopes of qualifying for the national final in Cronulla, NSW in 2015

Mandurah Boardriders were well represented by Brian Williams, (Senior, pictured above), Nick Burkett, Matt Lodge, Brendon Collision (Opens), Skipper Van Peer (Women) and Ace Van Peer (Junior) all lead by Team Coach Nick Black.

Coach Nick mentioned after the event "Mandurah Boardriders really took it to some very talented surfers competing for their local boardriding clubs and the Mandurah surfers can hold their head high with the level that they competed at, earning respect for their efforts from their peers."

Mandurah Boardriders placed third overall taking home $500 prize money and a beautiful trophy for their efforts. Margaret River were the event winners closely followed by Yallingup boardriders both teams competing in their local area surfed exceptionally well in the pumping waves.

Mandurah narrowly missed out on a top two spot that would have led to immediate qualification for the National Boardriders Battle final in Cronulla. The club will now  apply for the wildcard position in the hope of travelling and competing against the best boardriders clubs from all around the nation in the national final.

The Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle is the country's biggest grassroots, boardriders event series with $120,000 in prize money. It will involve more than 100 of Australia's best boardriders clubs in eight State qualifying rounds starting in October and culminate in a two-day, national final for 20 clubs on the Australia Day Long Weekend on 24-25 January, 2015 at Cronulla in Sydney

Mandurah Board Riders Junior Comp #2

Mandurah Board Riders Junior club held its second contest for the summer series on the weekend at Pyramids beach.

With perfect little waves and some great conditions in the morning even a suspected shark sighting was not going to keep these kids from the water and attacking the waves, show casing how well their surfing skills are flourishing with the high level of competition.

Maverick Wilson hot off his win in the Wahoo Grom comp in Perth the previous weekend was unstoppable in the under 8 boys final. Taking apart some nice little waves to beat Sunny Higgins, Sam Baker and Lexan King in that order.

Zali Corry showed she is a force to be reckoned with in the under 12 Girls Final taking off and riding some very challenging waves. Zali also competed in the Wahoo Grom comp and managed to place third in a much more experienced field in doing so being Mandurah Board Riders highest placed girls member in that event.

One of the biggest stand outs in the weekend's competition was young Toby Jenkins (pictured above) who hot off a recent surfing trip to Indonesia absolutely destroyed his competition to take out the Under 10 boys. Including a perfect ten point ride in his semi Final appearance. Toby showed superior wave choice and attacked the lip all day to become a deserving winner.

Mandurah Board riders have welcomed so many new members and have enjoyed the healthy turn out and participation in all of our divisions. We would like to thank all the parents and sponsors that make these events a possibility for the junior surfers and we look forward to seeing you all at the next event at Pyramids beach on the 14th of December at 7:00am.

Mandurah Board Riders - Junior Comp #1

Sunday the 2nd of November saw the first event in a series of six summer surfing contests for the Mandurah Board riders Junior club held at Pyramids beach south of Mandurah.

Now with over 80 club members and nearly all of them rocking up to compete it was a fair effort to control that many kids as they took to the water to compete in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive summer series.

Conditions were small but perfect for the young ones to compete in, as we set up the contest venue over two banks on the beach and split the contest into these areas to move through the volume of competitors in a timely fashion.

For the first time ever Mandurah Board riders have seen over 25 girls join the club which is an encouraging sign to see where the club is at and the future is looking strong as we celebrate our 35th year of competitive surfing in the Peel Region.

Taking out the first ever 8 under girls division in her first ever surfing contest was Caitlin Doris, this is a giant effort considering that Caitlin has only just taken up the sport and she had some amazing rides from out the back all the way to the beach proving that winners are grinners as she didn’t even realise that it was a competition. Instead was just happy being out there having fun and making new friends. Maukenzie Millar finished second ahead of Jayda Corry and Lani Daniels in 3rd and 4th respectively.

Brian Williams – Club President would like to thank all the parents that offered to assist with Judging and running the contest as it is their efforts that make it an enjoyable day for all the kids to compete.

Brian was stoked with the outcome and even though it is a long day on the beach and an early start for competitors and parents alike. He was extremely happy to see the amount of new members down on the beach having fun and enjoying the healthy competition.

The Under 16 and Under 14 boys look like they are going to be a highly competitive division this year, as we saw young Aidan Flynn clench the victory over Jess Williams in the Under 14 boys with a massive snap at the end of the heat to take the win. And Jarrad Collier was surfing fast and fluent on the left handers to take the victory in the under 16’s Final.

The two highly sort after “Little Ripper Awards” were won by two very deserving club members in Anthony Eppen who surfed very well in the Under 8 boys division all day and Lexis Black who for a first time competitor did so well in the under 12 Girls division. Both took home a Star Surf and Skate gift voucher for their fantastic efforts in competing on the day.

We hope to continue the run of great events as we look to our next competition being held on the 16th of November meeting at Pyramids at 0700 sharp again no late entry’s will be accepted.

A lot of our Grommets will be competing in Perth at the Wahoo Junior Surf event at Trigg point this coming weekend. The state contest will be held over two days against the best junior surfers in the state. We wish all our members competing the best of luck and hope they have a great time competing.
