Mandurah Board Riders at the board rider battle

Incredible surf conditions and standout performances highlighted an impressive event of contest surfing for the Mandurah Boardriders club last weekend at the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle.

The iconic Injidup Carpark surf break just south of Yallingup played host to the event and provided the perfect high performance setting for competitors who revelled in the clean and consistent 3-4 feet waves.

The unique and exciting event format saw six surfers from each club compete in skins, women’s and teams divisions. An impressive list of WA surfers were frothing at the opportunity to represent their local clubs in hopes of qualifying for the national final in Cronulla, NSW in 2015

Mandurah Boardriders were well represented by Brian Williams, (Senior, pictured above), Nick Burkett, Matt Lodge, Brendon Collision (Opens), Skipper Van Peer (Women) and Ace Van Peer (Junior) all lead by Team Coach Nick Black.

Coach Nick mentioned after the event "Mandurah Boardriders really took it to some very talented surfers competing for their local boardriding clubs and the Mandurah surfers can hold their head high with the level that they competed at, earning respect for their efforts from their peers."

Mandurah Boardriders placed third overall taking home $500 prize money and a beautiful trophy for their efforts. Margaret River were the event winners closely followed by Yallingup boardriders both teams competing in their local area surfed exceptionally well in the pumping waves.

Mandurah narrowly missed out on a top two spot that would have led to immediate qualification for the National Boardriders Battle final in Cronulla. The club will now  apply for the wildcard position in the hope of travelling and competing against the best boardriders clubs from all around the nation in the national final.

The Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle is the country's biggest grassroots, boardriders event series with $120,000 in prize money. It will involve more than 100 of Australia's best boardriders clubs in eight State qualifying rounds starting in October and culminate in a two-day, national final for 20 clubs on the Australia Day Long Weekend on 24-25 January, 2015 at Cronulla in Sydney
