Shark Leash Modom Star Surf Tested Technology

Limitations:

DUE TO THE PROTECTIVE NATURE OF THE MODOM SHARK LEASH AS A PRODUCT, IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT CAN NOT DO AS TO KNOW WHAT IT CAN DO AND WHAT ITS INTENDED USE IS.

CONSIDER A BULLET PROOF VEST, OR EVEN A SEATBELT - WHILE WEARING ONE WILL SURELY REDUCE THE RISK OF HARM, THEY ARE UNABLE TO FULLY GUARANTEE A PERSON’S SAFETY.

Sharkbanz technology has been tested on ten of the most common predatory shark species, including Bull, Blacktip, Hammerhead, and Tiger Sharks, who are responsible for the more typical ‘hit and run’ style attack on people, which Modom shark leash is an excellent defense against.

However - Great Whites are unique in that they are the only shark that acts as an ambush predator, attacking from a long distance at high speed. THERE IS NO EFFECTIVE WAY TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF AMBUSH ATTACK. THAT SAID, GREAT WHITES do rely heavily on their electromagnetic sense when swimming in open water, and the Modom Shark Leash could effectively deter an investigating great white.

FAQ’S

What’s the range of the Modom Shark Leash?

The field is about 1-2 meters (about 3-6 ft). The unpleasant sensation becomes intense for the shark at about 1 meter, becoming exponentially greater each inch closer. The most sensitive laboratory instruments have shown the field to be detectable at 10 feet, but not beyond. The effectiveness is amplified if many people in a group of surfers are wearing them. As more people choose to wear this technology, the more everyone’s risk is reduced. An approaching shark will be deterred sooner, keeping you, your friends, and sharks safe to enjoy another carefree day in the ocean.

Do I need to be moving to generate the magnetic field?

The electrical field is generated by your movement, but the magnetic field is always present. Sharks don’t like the magnetic field, and they really don’t like the electrical field. Active movement is not necessary; the simple rhythmic current of the ocean moving you around is enough. Sharkbanz does not need to be submerged in water to deter sharks so keep us in mind next time you take out that Ocean SUP.

Will the Modom shark leash affect my medical devices such as heart monitor, metal plates, screw, etc?

If you have metal or medical devices under the skin, always consult with your doctor before purchasing and using Sharkbanz.

Will the Modom shark leash affect electronic systems, compasses, GPS and other electronic devices?

Sharkbanz technology in the Modom shark leash can harm electronic devices, including electronic scuba equipment, and should be kept at least 12 inches (30cm) away from these devices. They can disrupt the normal function of GPS and compasses, and should be kept at least 12 inches away from them as well.

Will the Modom shark leash attract sharks?

No! The Modom shark leash emits a magnetic field that drops off quickly, so sharks cannot sense it from far away. Once they enter the magnetic field, they are quickly deterred. (To provide the science behind this, the Modom shark leash field drops off at the inverse cube of the distance from the magnet. This means that the field drops to less than that of the earth’s magnetic field at a distance just beyond 2 meters, so it is undetectable by sharks.)

Has the Sharkbanz Technology used in the Modom shark leash been tested on all shark species?

This technology has been tested on most common predatory sharks, including Bull, Blacktip, Oceanic Whitetip, small Tiger, Nurse, Lemon, Caribbean Reef, and Bonnethead. For more information on species tested, follow this link to our partners at Shark Defense.

*Note from the scientists: Official research tests showed that large magnets deterred Nurse sharks (please see research page for more info), but Sharkbanz will not elicit much of a reaction. Nurse sharks are bottom feeders and use their electrical sense much less than most predatory species, instead relying on their keen senses of sight, smell and barbels. They will bite if severely provoked, but are otherwise docile. Do not attempt to “test” Sharkbanz when diving with nurse sharks, as you may provoke the animal.

Does the Modom shark leash prevent Great White Shark attacks?

Great Whites are unique in that they are the only shark that acts as an ambush predator, attacking from a long distance at high speed. There is no effective way to prevent this type of ambush attack. However, Great Whites rely heavily on their electrical sense when swimming in open water, and Sharkbanz could effectively deter an investigating Great White. Research proves they are reactive to magnetic tech and they displayed avoidance reactions in independent magnetic research in South Africa. Basically, Sharkbanz tech is another way of showing that shark you are not food.

*By purchasing Sharkbanz, the buyer acknowledges that Sharkbanz are a deterrent to shark interactions and that there is NO GUARANTEE of no shark interactions. We liken Sharkbanz to other safety devices, such as bike helmets and bulletproof vests. They’re intended to reduce the risk of harm, but they cannot protect someone fully, all the time. Instead, they add protection when previously there was none.

What is the depth rating of the Modom Shark Leash?

With regard to a leash, there is no issue with depth rating.

Does the Modom Shark Leash affect any other animals in the ocean?

Sharkbanz technology in the Modom shark leash also deters stingrays, an added benefit to the product. The technology is not known to harm or be perceived by any other ocean creatures such as dolphins, sea turtles, or fish.

Does the Modom Shark Leash have batteries?

The Modom Shark Leash has no batteries and thus requires no charging. They are powered by the magnetic field of the earth and are always “on”. As long as the magnetic technology is not exposed to heat over 140°F (60°C) and the chassis is not physically damaged, the technology is operational.

How long will the Modom Shark Leash technology Last?

As long as your Sharkbanz are not exposed to heat over 140°F (60°C) and the chassis is not physically damaged, then the magnetic technology will not lose its power. This is an important point, and the question gets asked quite a bit. Please note the leash has our normal Modom warranty.

After wearing my modom shark Leash, it appears as if something is leaking out of the chassis...is my leash defective?

No! The magnets are very powerful and all ferritic (iron) particles will stick to the banz and sometimes look like a dark goo. Don’t worry; your leash is not leaking, nor is the effectiveness reduced. The best way to clean the particles off is to use a slightly damp or dry towel and smoothly wipe them away.

We’ve seen a number of people who will write in saying something is wrong with their Sharkbanz, who didn’t read the instructions at Sharkbanz.com/protected. The powerful magnets will pick up iron particles from the sand at many locations and they will stick to the chassis. They are relatively easy to clean off, and pose no harm. People have no reason to worry.
